Apple is reportedly developing a new version of its Vision Pro mixed reality headset that will connect directly to Mac computers, allowing users to stream content and run applications from their desktop environment, according to sources familiar with the company’s plans. The move comes as Apple looks to broaden the appeal of its mixed reality offering, particularly among enterprise users.
Two New Vision Pro Models in Development
Following lukewarm sales of the initial $3,500 Vision Pro, Apple is said to be pursuing two distinct product paths. One is a lighter, more affordable version of the headset, addressing key user complaints about the device’s bulk and high price. The other is a Mac-compatible model designed to enhance productivity by extending the Mac desktop into a spatial computing environment.
This new direction is reportedly part of a longer-term strategy led by CEO Tim Cook, whose ultimate goal is to develop lightweight augmented reality glasses that can be worn all day. The Mac-connected version of Vision Pro is expected to serve as an intermediate step toward that vision, bridging the gap between immersive hardware and practical daily use.
Enterprise Focus and Tariff Challenges
While pricing and hardware improvements are central to Apple’s plan, tariff policy under the Trump administrationcould complicate development and distribution.
